It's fun -- and a little scary -- to look back over the past 40 years of performing, and remember some of the folks I've played with. Here are just a few of them.
Now, I know a lot of folks "pad their resumes" by throwing in names of famous people they have only nodded to at a festival. Not here.
My own criteria for this list is that I had the good fortune to open for these people at a concert (such as John Prine or Joan Baez), or they had the bad luck to open for me (such as Pat Donohue or Richard Shindell), or we split the bill (such as with Jack Hardy or Claudia Schmidt). If we were paired for a workshop together at a folk festival (e.g. Liz Carroll or Mark O'Connor) or at a showcase (like the fabulous Jack Williams) the name could be on the list, too.
Some are folks I've toured with and stood beside all night long, playing licks and singing harmony -- like Tom Paxton, Frank Wakefield and my old partner, Ray Kamalay. Some are dear friends and others are one-night acquaintances. Some are famous, many are not famous but ought to be, and some are departed and dearly missed.
And every one of these names represent some very rare and fond memories for me.
